and tribulations of trying to escape. |
Summary:
“My Way” is a theme – the idea that a person
wants to live life “his way,” not subject to someone
else’s rules.
“My Way” attempts to examine both the pros and cons
of this particular philosophy.
When Nick, a recent high school graduate, and his childhood friend
RK decide to leave the suburbs and head
into the city for some excitement, they find that urban life is
far more complicated and dramatic than the place they call home.
With their friend Adidas Mike, they head to the home of a materialistic
drug-dealer named Bucky and his NFL-sized bodyguard.
After a few unusual encounters, they are robbed right outside
Bucky’s building. In the process, RK is shot. RK lives,
but his
car is stolen along with their drugs. This catalyst sends our
protagonists through a maze of city streets, unique characters
and situations, only to find out that Bucky was behind the car
jacking. With the help of Kalvin, an inner city kid, our protagonists
invent an ingenious plan to rip off Bucky and set things right.
Of course, complications ensue.
“My Way” is an honest portrayal of contemporary inner
city and suburban culture, with emphasis on dialogue and character
development.
“My Way” has a little of everything – drama,
comedy, romance, coming of age, adventure, thrills and action.
More than anything, “My Way” is about the realism
of life in Los Angeles in the summer of a new millennium.

Character outline:
Nick:
He is an average suburban kid just out of high school. He is
a writer and a realist, who has a tendency to fall out of line
and into trouble, when he follows his friends.
RK:
Nick’s best friend and instigator of a lot of the trouble
they get into. He has always had money and looks, and comes
off pompous and spoiled at times as a result. He shoots off
his mouth and says what’s on his mind a little too often.
But, in actuality, he is a good friend.
Adidas Mike:
A pot-dealing, high school dropout, slightly older than Nick
and RK. He’s not a bad guy, just poor, on his own, and
relaxed. Where he lies his head is where he calls home. You
can usually find him curled up on a friend’s couch.
Chas:
Adopted at a very young age into Kelvin’s family, she
has some sort of mixed ethnicity impossible to determine by
looking at her. It gives her an exotic beauty to match her natural
charm. Chas is also a street-smart girl, who kept her life in
order even though her home life is unstable.
Bucky:
A wild drug dealer, born into wealth, but nevertheless uses
cut throat tactics to satisfy his thirst for materialism. He
is full of himself and thinks the world is in his debt.
D:
A thug man by nature, he has no loyalty or respect for anyone
but himself. His size, manor and ways are all around intimidating.
He knows no other way. He is big, bulky, colored and mean.
Violet:
The kind of girl who parties and values getting high to the
point where even though she is drop-dead gorgeous, she doesn't
care where she wakes up in the morning.
Jimmy:
A loud and sometimes obnoxious man who is outspoken, and can’t
help but say funny things even when he is dead serious.
Vin:
An Asian guy who wants badly to be a baller and gangster. He
has a ruthless way of handling things. He is blunt and to the
point in his shady ways.
Peter and Paul:
The twin brothers are tall, lanky, with course hair, and finish
each other’s words. Even though the two have their own
personalities they cant help of share the same qualities being
they are identical twins. Paul is somewhat more aggressive than
Peter, even though Peter seems to get in more trouble.
Kalvin:
An adopted inner city kid, and brother of Chas. He has been
hardened by the streets, but is an outstanding character. If
he had one problem, it would be that he never realized with
his intelligence social skills he could easily get out of the
drug deals and life on the streets he has become accustomed
to.
Atom:
A man with a small frame but a big heart. He stands by his friends
through thick and thin. However, when trouble starts, expect
him to be in the back of the pack hoping not to get hurt.
Eric:
In his mid twenties, handsome, with a rough edge to his looks.
He has a very distinct presence. He can be a little too gutsy
and ready for conflict.
Steve:
A greasy, two-bit hustler. He might swindle his Mom if she had
any good drugs laying around. The group keeps him around out
of the belief that you keep your enemies closer than your friends.
The guy is good at heart in the end, just confused, and not
always reliable.
Jino:
The quiet Mafia type straight from a “Godfather”
film, he is not to be fooled with. Serious in demeanor, he could
snap and kill someone without a second thought if it were necessary.
Mr. Antonioni:
The son of an East Coast Mafia Boss. He is witty, but self-absorbed
and rude. He thinks he is slick, but comes across like a grease-ball.
And plenty of opportunities for cameos:
Beth, Meeko, Dad, Ms. Price, Clerk 1 and 2 (from the
liquor store), Paramedic, Patient and Girlfriend, Nurse, Tiny
and China (the Club Bouncers), Sleaze Ball 1 and 2 (from the
club), the Waitress, Middle Aged Man, and the Diner Cashier.
